  • When should I start socialising my puppy?
This is something that should start as soon as you collect your puppy. Good breeders will have already started some socialising, before puppies go to their new homes. Puppies have a critical period in which they will naturally explore and be eager to try out new things. This window can close as early as 12-18 weeks. This short period of their life gives them a huge amount of information about the world, and feeds heavily into their future personality and temperament. A lot of fear-based behaviours, including aggression, food and object guarding and body handling worries, can be prevented through correct socialisation. We need to teach our puppies that the world is one big party, and they are invited! So how do we do this? Doggy Geeks have made an excellent short video on what socialisation is, its importance and how to do it correctly. It’s well worth a watch. Link to video
